Officials clinic in Guam
Oceania Swimming Clinic
The Guam Swimming Federation welcomed swimming officials over five days of training in Hagatna (GUM) 25 -31 May.
The course conducted by OSA Secretary & FINA referee Lawrie Cox included an introduction to the FINA structure as well as the general principles required by officials as part of the job. The rules of each stroke were discussed and supplemented by sections of the FINA officials training video. Use of the Guam National Olympic Committee rooms followed by the practical application of skills was done during a two-day Guam Championship meet.
FINA was made aware that the country is lacking experienced volunteers for swim meets and the FINA clinic will help a successful increase in the number of experienced officials. The positive feedback spread by participants will hopefully encourage others to step forward.
The clinic helped train new volunteers who are keen to stay involved in the sport. Finally, the course also reinforced the knowledge of the existing officials and established the basic accreditation levels for those involved in the administration of the sport in Guam.
