VANUATU MINISTRY OF YOUTH AND SPORT DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

David Peebles and Director General George Maeltoka

This 'Meet the Partners' Forum was perfectlytimed for the Oceania HF visit of Competition Chair David Peebles and CDO Gill Gemming who attended with VHF President Jack Manuel, AVID Todd Kitto  and hockey player Mary Siro.

One of the key outcomes for the forum was to implement a National Strategic Vision.

Objectives were to

  1. Integrate youth development into mainstream government policies and programmes
  2. Strengthen the capacity of key youth development institutions and ensure integration and coordination in the delivery of youth services
  3. Strengthen the capacity of young people to participate in nation building

As a result of the forum David and Gill were able to meet with the Director General of Youth and Sports Development, Mr George Maeltoka to initiate an MOU that will see hockey as a recognised national sport and be part of Ministry Sport Development Programmes. David has taken the responsibility to develop the MOU and continue the consultation with the Director General who was very positive about the youth hockey participation programmes that were already well underway. Hockey may be the first sport to engage in such an MOU.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
