Men: Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu
Women: Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu
This is played using a Hockey 5s format and those that win Oceania Qualifying spots will go through to the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 6th to 18th October. The Youth Olympics will involve where 32 sports, and there is an expectation of 4,000 athletes attending them aged between 15 and 18 years old.
Oceania has 2 mens qualifying spots and 3 women, so there is a real opportunity for Pacific Island teams to be in Argentina. The final decision about who will represent Oceania is complex as it relies on the NOC in each country endorsing hockey as one of their team sports but if you do not attend the qualifier in Papua New Guinea you are not elegible.
Appointment of the officials will be made over the next two weeks in conjunction with the Oceania Officiating Committee Meeting to be held in Auckland on the 21st February.
Papua New Guinea Hockey Federation as the host have an excellent water surface that was put down for the 2015 Paciic Games and as can be see from the photo is centered in the main national sporting centre.
