The Oceania Cup is a major competition in the national competition schedule with the winner automatically qualifying for the 2018 Hockey World Cup; the women’s World Cup to take place in London in July 2018 and the men’s to take place in India in November 2018. The competition which will run from 11 – 15 October will see the national men’s and women’s teams from Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea compete for the title.
Each nation will play each other in the pool rounds before the top two ranked nations face off in the gold medal match for the glory of the Oceania Cup title.
With the addition of the newly introduced Oceania InterContinental Hockey5s competition including teams from the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Fiji and Samoa; the Oceania Cup will truly have something on offer for everyone to enjoy. Australia Country who have been tremendous supporters of the Island nations having regularly taken their under 21 teams to Fiji, have entered both men and women's teams to once again provide the Pacific Island teams with additional competition as well as giving the Australian spectators a team to cheer for in this competition. Currently the exact numbers of teams have not been finalised due to a number of the Pacific teams struggling to be able to finance both of their teams to attend. At the end of the first week of September it is likely that the final draw will be confirmed.
