With 9 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the 8th Micronesian Games, the state of Pohnpei is out in full force preparing venues, roads and gardens to welcome the 1,500 athletes, 200 officials and 2000 visitors from participating countries.
The Athletics Track received its final coat of rubber today and its lines will go down Monday. Australian contractor Graeme Kettle and his team from Team Sports have been working with locals to prepare the track for the last three weeks and are on schedule to complete it in time for the athletics which starts on July 21st.
At the Daini Baseball stadium a team were preparing the diamond and surrounding fields. The entrance has received a bright coat of orange paint.
Along the roads the young and old were all out chopping back bushes, weeding gardens and generally preparing Pohnpei for what will be an exciting 10 days of competition.
