Tafea leads Independence Cup

PORT VILA, 8 July 2004: Tupuji Emere defeated Siaraga 2-0 in the first knock-out match for the Independence Cup played at Port Vila Municipal Stadium.

Right midfielder Jonathan Kaltanak scored the first goal from a right corner kick while national team midfield general Seimata Chillia bulleted the second goal to walk out winners.

Siaraga led by senior teams defender Sil Bule tried in vain in both half but could not find the Emere's net.

Young midfield player Charley Ligo had the opportunity to score when his ball hit the crossbar before the goalkeeper pushed it out.

Winners Tupuji advance to the second stage of the knock-out tournament to meet Seveners with the winner moving to the semi-final.

Last week Melstone surprise Tafea five minutes into the opening half with a goal before the soccer giants hit back strong to finish the game with three goals to one. Tafea now moves to top spot in the championship ladder.
