Port Vila win gold in Vanuatu Games

As anticipated right from the start of the Vanuatu Games football competitions on Monday 28 August that Port Vila would come out winners in this year's games.

Port finished top of Group A with a 100% winning record, while in Group B, Shefa finished top winning 2 and drawing on one of their three group matches. Shefa FA has earlier announced that even though they did not have the time for better preparations, they would aim to reach at least the semi finals, and they did. But it also happened that they came out winners in the semi finals against Malampa, and were drawn to play Port Vila who also won their semi against Luganville.

Port Vila came out proving the fact that they hold all the national players and they play a much higher level of competition compared to the provinces.

The exhausted and Shefa side only managed to hold them back for the first 30 minutes before Jean Nako started the goal scoring spree. Tafea FC teammate Richard Iwai added Port Vila's second from a Thomas rebound to have the capital side leading 2 - 0 at half time.

Port Vila then added three more goals in the second half to finish off a 5 - nill win over the Vanuatu capital province in the 2006 Vanuatu Games hosted by Penama Province and played at the Tahigogona Stadium on the island of Ambae.

Luganville defeated Malampa 3 - 1 to finish third. So it was gold to Port Vila, Silver to Shefa and Bronze to Luganville.
