Vanuatu triumph over Fiji to finish third

Vanuatu beat Fiji in the playoff for third and fourth place this afternoon by 4-1 to secure the third spot. It was their day as they opened the scoresheet inside five minutes. It was John Mark Bell's free kick that shook the Fijians. Reserve keeper Aliverti Baliloa misjudged the ball as it sailed towards him and only realized it actually went in after it hit the back of the net.
Vanuatu surged ahead in the 18th minute following a string of neat passes, striker Alick Ismael powered in their second goal. Fiji skipper Osea Vakatalesau had to encourage his boys to press on despite trailing 2-0 and one minute later Fiji won a corner and defender Apisalome Tuvura nodded in to reduce the gap by a single goal as they went out for the breather.

In the second half Vanuatu maintained its copusure and scored two further goals from Charles Ligo (penalty 70') and Emmanuel Victor Maleb (78') sealed their victory.
The Fijians were simply outplayed by the Ni Vanuatu and the score line spoke for itself.
Meanwhile, all Australia and Fiji will leave tomorrow while Vanuatu sill spends a further two extra days before they return home.
