Plan for Gold in 2011 Pacific Games

 

WITH major objective to win gold medal at the 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia, the PNG Football Association has unveil its preparation plan including hectic international schedule for this year.

Acting president of PNG Football Association John Kapi-Natto revealed that the proposed 2010 PNGFA Calendar would be tight and crucial as PNG prepares for the Pacific Games.

He said PNGFA will select two men’s training squad from nine franchise teams, five in Port Moresby while the four in Lae and Madang.

“There are a lot of quality players and it would be more reasonable to have two squads to select the final men’s squad. The teams are PNG Black and PNG Gold which will comprise from the selected players from the NSL teams,” he said.

Mr Kapi-Natto said PNGFA have to select the best men’s team to aim for gold medal in New Caledonia, and with the high standard of football at the semi professional level, the NSL, PNG can achieve its ambition.

He said pending on the PNGFA Executive Committee meeting this Saturday, a five-men selection panel would be tasked to select the 30 players for the respective, Black and Gold teams.

Also high on the agenda would be the appointment of national coaches for men and the women’s team for the Pacific Games.

Kapi-Natto said the training squad will play two home-and-away games before the final team will be selected, and will be put to test in the grueling international fixtures involving North Queensland Fury from Australia, Indonesia team, plus friendlies against the Melanesian brothers – Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.

The acting president said the international fixtures penciled for this year’s are as follows:

* North Queensland Fury vs PNG April/May

* Wantok Cup – Tri-Nation Soccer challenge – Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and PNG - July

* PNG President’s Xl vs Solomon Island – September

* Pesipura from Indonesia vs PNG – TBA

* PNG vs Fiji and Vanuatu (still under negotiation)
