Another Visit Out West - Robinvale Touch Association

Robinvale Touch Association are up for today’s Affiliate in the Spotlight.

Robinvale is located 469km North West of Melbourne and has a population of 4000 people. Robinvale is famous for the Euston 80 ski race which is held there every year on the Murray river between Mildura and Robinvale. This small town has a diverse community with plenty to offer year round – including Touch Football!

Robinvale Touch Association have had a very recent introduction to Touch Football in their community with this being only their second year and season in full swing. 

RTA have a vision to be able to deliver 2 sports that allows participants to be engaged all year round by providing Rugby League in the winter and Touch Football in the summer. Part of the RTA vision is to engage the broader community into this new sport during the summer. Touch Football promotes social cohesion with a family friendly environment suitable for all ages and all levels of fitness. Robinvale is rich in regards to cultural diversity and hence their club aims to embrace the different cohorts of the community and provide an environment that is inviting to all.

With this being said, RTA are running 4 varied competitions with Social Mixed, Senior Mixed, Junior Mixed and Mini-Mods for the juniors. Their competition is held at Robinswood Oval between 5.30pm – 8pm on Thursday Nights and is open for anyone to take part and join their rugby community.

As mentioned before, Robinvale’s latest census has recorded a population of 4,000 and of that RTA have registered over 60 diverse participants from as young as 4 to their oldest participant aged 54. These numbers surpass registrations of last year in terms of number of participants including the different ethnic backgrounds (Indigenous, Tongan, Fijian, Asian and others).

Robinvale Touch Association are a great example of an affiliate who is working to develop their community’s engagement and diversity through our awesome sport!
