However, the Balmain Seniors did not enter teams in the NSWTA Vawdon Cup weekly representative competition and the occasional team in the senior State Cup.
This prompted us to enter senior Mens team in the VC in 2015 & 2016 with great success. The problem in the future is two pronged:
1. Our senior players could not play in our junior competition and therefore are not registered players in our competition and consequently not eligible to play in our representative senior teams.NSWTA would not be able to register them.
2. NSW Touch have advuised us that as seniors are now entering teams in VC we will no longer be able to regsiter senior teams in the VC.. This does not effect our Boys & Girls Youth teams as we will still be entering teams in these competitions
The solution was to meet with senior Balmain association officials to arrive at a mutually beneficial solution. After a few BJTA committee meetings and two meetings with the senior association, an agreement was reached where our senior players would have a pathway to continue their represenative careers with the seniors. Then there will be an uninterupted passage from Junior to Senior representative teams.
There were differing views among the junior committee but it was decided that this was the best and only option available to ensure the future of our senior players who have to leave the junior ranks.
Again I advise that we would not have been allowed to field senior teams in senior competitions by NSWTA in the future.
Boys Youth - Coach has resigned and our Coaching Co-ordinator Alan Hil will be appointing a new one. Training is still on at Blackmore Oval on Friday nights. We will advise you all of current situation. All players please attend.
Girls Youth - Pat Digiglio , Coach, has adised players on training etc
Mens, Womens & Mixed - Training for interested players is on Sunday 28 May at Timbrell Park @ 9.00am. All our junior players, no longer eligible for junior teams, who would like to continue their rep careers are urged to attend to ensure the agreement is successful. We still want to field strong teams in seniors.
Many people have spent many years developing our players and growing our association. We would hate to see all our talented kids not being developed further as seniors.
Attached is a joint-statement by both Associations which sets out what we are trying to achieve in the future.
