Narrow victory for Power Horse Energy Drink

DOHA: Power Horse Energy Drink escaped a narrow victory over Qatar Kentz 73-71 in their do-or-die game over the weekend and at least assured themselves of the last slot for the quarter-final rounds of the 6th McDonald’s Qatar Basketball Cup 2010 at the Al Gharafa Multi-Purpose Gym.

The game was tied with 29 seconds left after Qatar Kentz’s small guard Nikko Leano converted one of the two charities from the foul line. However, Power Horse quickly regained the two-point lead with 13 seconds left.

Qatar Kentz could still have the luxury of time to equalize the game before the final buzzer but all their dominating rebounds inside the keyhole failed to convert into a basket.

It was actually a last minute comeback game for Power Horse after trailing behind with single digits in most of the way. They took advantage of Qatar Kentz’s handicap on foul trouble with still five minutes to go and finally tasted it first lead, 63-61, with 4:37 left.

Power Horse import Michael Buendia led his team to stay in contention in the game with his powerful moves inside the keyhole while point guard Elmer Santander contributed with back to back conversions of difficult shots aside from being consistent with his visits to the free throw line.

In the second game, One Family continued to rally another win over Western Union-Mindoro Tamaraws, 88-82, to capture the top position in the game standings as the elimination rounds almost come to a close.

The high scoring ball game was actually a thriller as both teams traded baskets starting on the third quarter although both teams have been consistent on their set play if only to stop the momentum among players.

Rumaillah Group pulled a big surprise by beating front runner KBAS-Banco de Oro, 98-77 in the final games.

KBAS-BDO already saw it coming for Rumaillah even at the start of the game when they were already nailed to zero points for about five minutes and their opponents already fired up with back-to-back transition fast break points.
