B’ball training squad announced

The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) has announced the names of the men’s and women’s basketball training squad.

These players were selected from the recent Solomon Games and last year’s Honiara Basketball League (HBL) competition.

The training squad comprises of both experienced and new upcoming talents.

The players will undergo trainings before coming up with a final squad that will represent Solomon Islands at the Oceania Basketball sub-zone competition next year.

The squads will be training under the watchful eyes of coaches, Brendan Beak, Moses Kivo, Willie Sade.

The Solomon Islands will be part of the Sub-zone basketball competition which will host all Melanesian countries.

The top three winners of the competition will get to take part in the Pacific Games starting from 2019 and onwards.

Only eight teams will take part in the Pacific Games basketball competition, three from Melanesia, three from Polynesian countries, one for the Micronesian countries and one from the host nation.

This is according to the latest competition system released by FIBA.

Next year’s sub-zone competition will be hosted by PNG.
