Hunters, Spiders top rivals in GBL

Teams Fish n’ Fins Hunters and Ministry of Education (MOE) Spiders showed determination as they scored huge upsets against formidable foes, Wednesday night in the ongoing 2014 season of the Rudimch Enterprise Government/Business League at the Palau National gym.

Fish n’ Fins Hunters fought hard enough to fend off tournament favorites Yrang’s Salon, 77-75. Despite taking a 16-15 lead in the opener, the Hunters found themselves trailing at the end of the first half with Yrang’s Salon taking a 36-32 advantage.

But the Hunters did backed down as they spurted a 21-18 run in the third canto to get with in striking distance at 54-53. The Hunters then made their moved in the final quarter as they outclassed Yrang’s Salon with a 24-21 output that gave them the win.

Moses led the scoring chores for the Hunters with 24 while teammate Erwin added 18. Una Rikrik, on the other hand, topscored for Yrang’s Salon with 21 as Masao Umedip and Arnold Undecimo chipped in 16 and 14, respectively on the losing end.

Meanwhile, MOE Spiders shocked everyone as they won over a tough President’s X-Men, 67-66.

The Spiders were trailing also in most part of the game, they made their moved in the fourth quarter as they gave out a 24-17 run enough to fuel them to a victory. Chevron led the Spiders with 22 baskets as Osamu added 16 while Douglas Schmidt Jr. topscored for the X-Men with 19 on the losing end.

In other games, KSG Royals bested team Malii, 70-43; MOJ Lawmen won over MOF Omsangel, 93-84; team ABC defeated PPUC Electric Eel, 68-66; Neco outscored Mason’s Mercury, 86-75; PPR Shark Attack downed PRR Dragons, 99-85; Island Rhythm beat PPR Stingrays, 87-84; and WCTC Powerball drubbed SDA Crusaders, 101-53.

Games will resume tonight with PPUC Electric Eel versus MOH Band Aid at 6 p.m. while KSG Royals will face team ABC in the main game at 7:30 p.m.

Monday night games will feature MOE Spiders against MOJ Lawmen at 6 p.m. followed by the MOH Band Aid-team Malii at 7:30 p.m. while Island Rhythm will be pitted against WCTC Powerball in the main game at 9 p.m.

In other news, today marks the deadline for submission of applications for the National Basketball Development Officer. Interested applicants have until 4:30 p.m. to submit their applications at the PNOC office.
