RESULTS FOR FIJI ON DAY 3

The Fiji men started well against Australia and were competitive with their opponents for the first 10 minutes or so, but then the height, athleticism, skill and game knowledge of the Aussies came to the for and by quarter time they had built a lead of  .   To their credit the Fijians did not stop trying and despite the odds against them battled as well they could.  Obviously the boys will learn from this game as to how basketball should be played and hopefully will start to understand the skills that are required to play at the top level.  The game style of the Aussies is also something our players need to learn in that the Australians do not stop at any time in the game, whereas the Fiji team play a start / stop type of game.  As in previous games the sportsmanship of the Australian team was questionable in that they continued throughout the game to pressure the opposition in defence and continually ran the fast break to build up a big score and humiliate their opposition
For Fiji Martin scored 6, Jese 5 (and fouled out) and Sol and Waymann scored 3 each.  Martin pulled in 6 rebounds.  Our women also started well against Tahiti and controlled the play in the first quarter.  In the second quarter the Fijians went away from a team game and started to play as individuals, especially our more experienced players.  This led to many turnovers which the Tahitians quickly capitalized on.  Again our inexperienced players showed signs of hope for the future with solid displays of effort and determination.  While they may not yet have the skill and knowledge level to play in this type of competition, Their attitude suggest that in time they will be able.  Ofa again fouled out through having to do almost everything to help her team and finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.  Britts top scored with 15 and Cece contributed 6 points and 12 rebounds.  Peniette and Vika added to the rebound tally with 7 and 5 respectively.
ahiti’s Alizee Lefranc was the game high scorer with 24 points.
