LDS dominates basketball

Latter-day Saints dominated the Tuckers Ice Cream Secondary Schools Basketball finals winning three grades at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.
The Tamavua school which has always been known for its dominance in the local basketball scene from previous years won the U15, U17 and U19 in the boys grades while ACS defeated favourites Yat Sen Secondary School 28- 19 to clinch girls U19 grade.
LDS U15 defeated Suva Grammar 30- 24 while their U17 grade defeated Marist Brothers High  43- 25 and edged Lautoka Central College 44- 40 in the U19 grade.
The MBHS teams won $200 after being awarded the best dressed team while Central College Lautoka student Peter Gus was awarded the most skilled player of the tournament award after displaying exceptional skills at the four days tournament.
Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said this year’s tournament has proven to be a successful one considering the number of young players that have proven their worth in the tournament.
He added the tireless efforts of teachers and volunteers made the tournament a more successful one.
Results: Boys: U15: LDS 30- 24 SGS, U17: LDS 43- 25 MBHS, U19: LDS 44- 40 LCC
Girls: U15: DAV Girls 25- 19 SGS, U17: SJSS 37- 14 SGS, U19: ACS 28- 19 YSS.
