Season Opening Race Report

The BSS season kicked off in style on Sep 2nd with a beautiful spring day and light north-easter greeting all the sailors. In the Skiffs fleet Lauren was guest skipper on Data 3 and took the early lead from BGN. In the light and shifty conditions Lily and the crew were able to sneak past and establish a small lead but as the breeze freshened, to all of 10 knots, the Data 3 crew were able to chase them down and took a 5 second lead at the top mark. River Rats did their best to hold on and were right amongst it in the light conditions but fell away a little towards the end of the work. BGN were right on the hammer of Data 3 and just as they were challenging for the lead managed to tie the kite in a not and lost too much time to make up leaving Data to take the gun. BGN were a not too distant second and River Rats rounded out the field. A big thanks to Geoff and Sasha for being the celebrity starters.

The Laser fleet saw a good fleet of nearly 20 boats on the water. It was reasonably uneventful, a nice short race to get the season going. Probably the most amusing part was a certain Radial skipper applying a nasty handicap to himself by leaving his bung out and not realising that was the problem until back at the ramp. No names however the results might tell the story!

In the Sabot 1-Ups the fleet positions didn't change from start to finish in the short race.

Thanks to Jenny Hawgood, James Laurenson and Ken Reed for the respective fleet reports.

Final results are posted here
