QLYC Inaugral Pink Lady Regatta a double success
by Rosie Colahan
The Inaugural Pink Lady Regatta hosted by Queenscliff Lonsdale Yacht Club on Saturday 16 January 2016 in conjunction with Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) has been hailed a great success by all involved - a spectacular day for sailing on any Bay!
Commodore Jill Golland comments - 'We couldn’t be happier with the outcomes of the inaugural Pink Lady Regatta “A Day On Two Bays”, raising money for the Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA). Thanks to Julie Rodger President of the Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads Breast Cancer Support Group for her initiative in joining forces.
The event was opened by the Hon Alex Chernov AC QC, immediate former Governor of Victoria and a past member of QLYC, who with his wife Elizabeth, went out on the water to judge the best dressed boat. The weather was great and approximately 50 ladies and their families enjoyed a sailing experience on Port Phillip Bay which included a Motor-Past boat procession and regatta races.
Support for the Regatta has been fantastic and we raised over $2000 for BCNA.'

The YV Women & Girls in Sailing Committee (WGISC) congratulate QLYC on their success in engaging with their local community and creating an inclusive, innovative event which has not only increased awareness and raised funds to support the ongoing work of the Ocean Grove Barwon Heads Breast Cancer Support Group, but has also opened the doors to the wider community to experience the joys and benefits of a day on the water under sail. The WGIS Committee look to ongoing annual editions of this event and hope the success inspires other clubs to undertake similar activities.
