FIFA Women’s Football (soccer) Coaching course ends

Pago Pago, American Samoa, Monday, April 19, 2010 — The five-day FIFA Women’s Football (soccer) Development Coaching Course was officially closed by FFAS executive committee member Silasila Samuelu on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.

Samuelu closed it on behalf of the association’s president, Iuli Alex Godinet, and Sandra Herrera, FFAS vice-president, was also on hand as she was a participant of the course.

FIFA Coach Instructor Vicki Linton of Australia conducted the course and handed out Certificates of Participation to the 20 individuals from FFAS clubs and also DOE schools that stuck out the course.

Tanuvasa Vailoa Levaula, vice-president of new club affiliate Vailoatai Youth, made positive remarks about the course that was very uplifting.

“When I first came to this course I was a bit hesitant about it,” he said when speaking on behalf of the participants in thanking Linton. “I was unsure about the whole thing but I am now impressed and very appreciative of what I have learned so far.”

Samuelu and Herrera both implored the participants to now apply what they have learned.

The association is planning on sending a women’s National Team to the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia and that squad’s coach could come from one of these participants.

Already one of them, Rita Simi of Leone High School, was the assistant coach for the women’s U-20 squad that played in New Zealand earlier this year against New Zealand, Tonga and Cook Islands.
