9 WYC sailors represented the club at the 2017 Australian Hobie Cat Nationals held at Somers YC from December 30 - January 3. While the first day was blown out, consistnet afternoon southerlies of 10 - 20 knots allowed the organisers to get in 14 races over the last three days of the regatta.
Pip Pietromonaco, sailing with Somers YC's Meagan Bursa, comfortably took out the Hobie 16 Women's title as the first all female crew home in 10 races. Overall they placed 14th in the Hobie 16 fleet.
Robbie Lovig, sailing with Torben Wick, in the Hobie Tiger Division, was no less impressive. Robbie and Torben won 9 heats, being beaten across the line 4 times by WYC's Glenn Douglas who partnered with Somers YC's Michelle Bursa. This consistent effort put Robbie and Glenn, former Hobie 16 Youth World Championship partners, clearly in first and second place overall.
Vincent Cross and Will Fleming acquitted themselves well finisihing 7th in the Hobie 16 Youth Division, 28th overall.
Robert & Luke Pease took out 7th in the Hobie 16 Grand Master's Division, 36th overall. Adam & Joshua Smith finisihed 33rd overall.
