Re: State League Fixtures

Re: State League Fixtures

To the Volleyball Community,

As you all now know the draw for the 2014 Victorian Volleyball League has been released.
This draw has been met with some mixed reactions some of which has been expressed directly with Volleyball Victoria, its Board and also expressed via social media.

Whilst we understand that this year’s draw is different we have had to accommodate various scenarios which we believe fosters the growth of the game in Victoria.

The situation which presented itself to us was two clubs who indicated that they were growing rapidly and wanted to field a number of teams in each division.  The Board and the Administration deliberated over this scenario and came to the conclusion that whilst this will cause some changes in the way the draws were to be constructed the ultimate aim of ensuring the growth of the game was more important and as the state association we should not be preventing people playing competitive volleyball.  We also have had some issues with the stadium and their bookings; we are being squeezed from both ends of the season which now make growth of the sport and playing all games at the stadium more difficult. In the coming months we will need to look at how we can accommodate growth and usage of facilities around the state.

Over the course of this process the administration has communicated regularly with the club delegates many of which provided their thoughts and ideas on the way the draw can be compiled and understood that it was not going to be an ideal year due to the number of teams in the draw.
We have worked with clubs who have entered additional teams and also withdrew their teams late which meant we have had to make some significant changes in a short space of time.
Whilst all requests can never be met we have worked to construct the draw to facilitate more matches and try not to reduce matches as Volleyball Victoria want more matches and more people playing our game.

Given the number of teams this season to ensure a fair draw for all teams the draw either had to reduce the number of games per team or increase games for each team (resulting in double header games being introduced).

Volleyball Victoria will continue to communicate with all club delegates to ensure that we grow as a sport.
