Pym the perfect fit for Berwick

Berwick Netball Club President Mel Broadley had no idea of the potential impact on her club when she sat in her car at the Cranbourne Shopping Centre recently and dialled a phone number.

Answering her call was one of Victoria’s most respected coaches – Robynn Pym – and the two settled in for a chat.

Roughly one hour and twenty minutes later and Pym was the new coach of the Berwick Netball Club for 2018, instantly dispensing of a dark cloud that had hung over the club during the off-season.

The departure of senior coach Janine Kilmartin, and the loss of several players, meant the Wickers still hadn’t consolidated their senior squads for the season ahead.

But they’re about to play catch up – and do so in a hurry.

The opportunity is there for talented netballers to wear the navy blue and learn from one of the best coaches in the business.

“It’s just so exciting for the club to have someone as respected and knowledgeable as Robynn Pym join our club,” Broadley said.

“Her reputation precedes her, she has coached successfully at VNL and state level and will bring a real professionalism and super-bright future to our club. We just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have Robynn on board.

“Off-court I’m really happy with the direction the club is heading in but this will help to bring on-court hope to a senior playing group that deserves the opportunity to improve and be successful.”

Pym – who coached the Victorian 19-Under team to a national title in Perth in 2016 – will oversee the Wickers’ Game Training Sessions at Edwin Flack Reserve, Manuka Road, Berwick.

Training is currently being conducted over two nights, with Thursday sessions from 6.30pm to 8pm and Saturday morning’s running from 9am to 10.30am.

Those looking to impress the new coach and put a case forward for selection in squads ranging from A to D Grade can contact the club at info@berwicknetballclub.com.au
