Alexandra Schaefer struck an early brace as Moreton Bay won 4-1 against Brisbane Roar FC on Friday night at Wolter Park.

Moreton Bay went for the kill early on and was rewarded with four goals inside the first 33 minutes. Schaefer opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Teammate Alexandria Walker struck her eighth goal of the campaign in the 23rd minute. And Schaefer scored in the 27th minute to assert the Jets’ dominance.

Captain Lauren Askin struck in the 33rd minute to complete the rout. The Roar scored late in the second half via Holly McQueen, which only proved a consolation goal.

Schaefer now has 10 goals for the campaign and is sitting 5th in the top scorer’s chart.

Western Pride FC | 3 – 3 | Eastern Suburbs

Briggs Road Sporting Complex

Shootout ends in a thrilling draw

Western Pride and Eastern Suburbs played out an exciting 3-3 draw on Saturday evening at Briggs Road Sporting Complex.

Fans of both sides were treated to goals early, as both teams traded blows as Eastern Suburbs led 2-1 after 16 minutes thanks to Danielle Ward.

Zoe Lambi struck for Western Pride in the 35th minute to make it 2-2 at half-time. After the interval, Lambi scored again in the 56th minute, before Susanne McKeen equalised to make it 3-3 after 60 minutes.

Despite the madness inside the first hour, the deadlock could not be broken. With both sides left wondering what could have been.

Logan Lightning | 4 – 2 | Sunshine Coast Wanderers

 Cornubia Park

Lightning withstand Wanderers challenge

Logan Lightning was made to sweat for it against the Wanderers, eventually winning 4-2 on Saturday night at Cornubia Park.

The Lightning went into a 2-0 lead halfway through the first half, thanks to goals from Alana Giggins and Briellyn Bond. The Wanderers struck twice in reply to level the scores, however, Logan notched another goal through Cecylia Kubicki Garcia just before half-time to eventually head into the break at 3-2.

Natalia Pinkney scored her first goal of the season late to settle Logan’s nerves and bank a much-deserved three points. For their counterparts, the Wanderers will take heart from a strong performance and will have learned some lessons to move forward.

The Gap FC | 3 – 4 | Lions FC

Walton Bridge Reserve

Lions strike late to stake premiership claim

The Lions FC grabbed a crucial win over The Gap FC in a 4-3 win on Saturday night at Walton Bridge Reserve.

In the top-of-the-table clash, Tanesha Stanley proved to be the hero for the Lions, scoring an 82nd-minute winner after both teams traded multiple blows in this clash between 2nd and 3rd.

Greta Bodey and Tiarne Petterwood scored their 14th and 15th goals of the season for The Gap respectively. Petterwood and Bodey now sit 2nd and 3rd respectively in the season's top scorers charts.

The Gap FC will be disappointed to have lost to their rivals on the table, and lose their league position. The Lions, however, would be thrilled with the bagging three points away from home against a strong Gap FC.

Capalaba Bulldogs | 1 - 6 | Gold Coast United

John Frederick Sportsfields

McElligott’s four helps Gold Coast cruise

Meaghan McElligott struck four times after the hour mark, as Gold Coast United registered a huge 6-1 win against the Capalaba Bulldogs at John Frederick Sportsfields on Saturday night.

United was leading 1-0 at the 60th minute before McElligott scored four of the next five – including twice in the dying stages to stamp home United’s dominance in this contest.

McElligott is now the competition’s leading scorer thanks to her super effort on the weekend, leading the way with 22 goals in nine appearances.

Mudgeeraba Soccer Club | 5 – 0 | SWQ Thunder FC

Sid Bigg Park

SWQ stay bottom after big loss

Mudgeeraba had a huge 5-0 win against SWQ Thunder on Sunday afternoon at Sid Bigg Park.

This game was an intriguing encounter between two evenly matched sides stuck near the bottom of the ladder. Mudgeeraba was able to inflict a big loss on SWQ Thunder, despite conceding the most amount of goals than any other team this season.

This is Mudgeeraba’s second win of the season and helps them get closer to the mid-table scramble while avoiding being at the bottom. SWQ Thunder will be disappointed as they have shown their ability to play this season, but they’ll go back to the training field and look for answers.

Souths United | 5 – 2 | Mitchelton

Wakerley Park 2

Souths post a big come-from-behind win

Souths United had to wake up quickly after conceding the first goal early on, but they picked up the tempo to win 5-2 against Mitchelton on Sunday night at Wakerley Park.

Amy Chapman was instrumental for her side, with a goal before others followed suit to make it 3-1 at half-time. Chapman finished the job and earned herself a hat-trick with two second-half strikes to sweeten the win.

The win keeps Souths at the top of the table and shows they have grit when going behind.
