An understrength Moreton Bay United fought back from a goal down to edge out Mitchelton FC 2-1 in their pre-season friendly at Wolter Park on Saturday night.

Off-season recruit Jacob Fulluck and Japanese triallist Joi Masuda got on the scoresheet for the defending PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland Champions after Lachlan Munn gave Mitchelton the early lead.

Scott Stewart and Jacob Mitchell were the only member of Jets squad from last year’s Grand Final triumph to line-up against the Brisbane Premier League outfit.

They fell behind inside ten minutes when Munn fired home a rebound from six yards after Jets keeper Ryan Atkins tipped a prior shot from Michael McGowan onto the bar.

However, Jets steadily warmed to their task as Fulluck forced a telling save before levelling terms approaching the half-hour – cutting inside on the left and slotting the finish after Masuda and Liam Fairgrieve combined in the build-up.

Fairgrieve and Tiaga Ishikura chanced their arm from distance either side of half-time for the Jets, while Atkins proved up to task to deny Mitchelton’s Steven Chester.

The decisive goal came just after the hour when Masuda benefitted from Fulluck’s cut-back – delivering a looped shot over the goalkeeper.

Substitute Declan Smith and Fulluck both saw efforts saved in the final half hour, with Fulluck coming closest after beating three players and the goalkeeper only to see his shot cleared off the line.

The win marks Jets first win of the pre-season. They continue their preparations for the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues season on Tuesday against North Pine SC.
