Peninsula Power Women have shocked last season's grand finalists Brisbane Olympic Women 5-1 in the opening round at A.J. Kelly Park on Sunday night.

Power got off to a flying start with new signing Brooke Barbuto receiving the ball on the edge of the area, before dribbling around two defenders and firing a shot inside the left post.

Annie Evans notched Power's second moments later, running onto a precise through ball and rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Olympic looked to steady the ship when Kirsten Jamieson took a free kick just outside the box, with her shot looping up and over the keeper, but the comeback was short lived.

Ali Schaeffer intercepted a wayward pass on halfway, driving into the opponent's half and scoring off the post to restore the two-goal advantage before Evans completed her brace.

A tighter second half was highlighted by a long-range Barbuto effort which caught Olympic keeper Ronan off her line and secured a 5-1 victory.

Bouncing back from last season's ninth-placed finish, Power will look to continue their impressive start to the season when they host Western Pride FC next weekend while Olympic play Eastern Suburbs away.
