The Mitcham Junior Football Club comedy night was again an outstanding success last Friday night. With a record sell-out crowd and an A List of entertainers, President Craig Giles explained in his intro speech the importance of such events the Junior Club runs. “Tonight’s event is not only about raising money so we as a club can continue to implement the best possible Junior Football Program we can for our children, it’s also about coming together as a community, one that shares the same goals and our growth has been through the hard work of our members. The Mitcham Junior Football Club is now again a club of choice for children in our local area, we don’t trade off our name and watch children gravitate to our club because of past glories. We take our program out to the community and build relationships with the local schools and that’s why we have 100 plus auskickers and two under 8s this year.” He also went on and thanked the tireless efforts of our Football Operations Manager Gavin Ward - “this is his brain child and infact, this is our 4th comedy night, he plans it, he runs it and he motivates others to contribute, donate and support the Event and along with Glenn Newnham our Secretary - they’re a dynamic force. It’s Glenn that handles the day to day running of the club, organises all the team mangers, deals with the League, sells the apparel. We as a club are very lucky to have him.”
On arrival ALL guests were treated with the opportunity to have a free caricature from cartoonist Greg Vercoe, After the Intros the Event was hosted by Gavin Ward, Who pointed out don’t under estimate the work our president Craig Giles puts in - He is the one that steers the ship, continuing on the good work of former president Luke Smith. Craig still runs the Aus Kick program even though his youngest boy is now in the under 15s, he runs the school and fete programs and along with Pete Ajani they have been the driving force behind our under 8s this season. Then with a quick word from all our Junior Coaches, The very funny Brad Oakes entertained the crowd, followed by former North Melbourne / Collingwood footballer and mega media star Sam Kekovich who had the large crowd captivated with his matter of fact approach and very funny stories. With lots of raffles, grand auction, tower of grog give-a- away and the drawing of the Nunawading Good Guys special effort raffle (Winners below) the night was an outstanding success both socially and financially with every one having a great time.
A BIG thank you to all that attended, donated and supported the event and also to The senior club for working the bar, Under 15 Captain Josh Hopkins and Luke Ward for working on the night, Mellissa Frogley and Nicole Ross along with Leigh Walters and Con Antoniou for setting up during the Day, Vicki Hopkins and Androula Antoniou along with Bec Clarke for their work on the night PLUS Paul O’Sullivan for his excellent work in the crowd.
