Today saw the Mitcham JFC involved in practice matches at Kiloran Park in Mooroolbark under sunny skies.

Our two Under 9 teams played along side each other on one ground, while at the same time the Under 10's played on the second ground. Both under 9 teams had good hit outs and showed that they will have a good, fun season ahead, while the Under 10's looked like they hadn't stopped playing during the off season and will be more than competitive, particularly now that they are allowed to tackle.

The Under 11's were very impressive in their game and played a very exciting brand of footy. They enter the "competitive age group" full of confidence to produce and exciting season.

The Under 12's also showed great improvement, with some kids certainly growing over the summer months and suddenly showing that they really do have the ability to take the game on. Certainly a positive vibe from this team coming out of todays proceedings.

Our Under 13's, fresh off their Premiership victory in 2015, were involved in good game of football against a very skilful Mooroolbark outfit who played in A grade last season. Plenty to work on for our boys, but they will be competitive in B Grade this year.

The Under 14's played at Mullauna against a very strong Heathmont outfit. Tough day for the boys playing against an A grade team, but plenty to learn from it and not likely to have to play against such quality opposition in the year ahead.

Our Under 17's were in a similar position playing against an A Grade Mooroolbark outfit. The boys were outplayed by a very good football team but to their credit, they didn't give up and continued to match them physically right to the final siren.

A huge thank you to our Footy Operations Manager Leigh Walters for organising these practice matches with Mooroolbark and thank you to The Mooroolbark Junior Football club for their great facilities and hospitality. Next stop will be at the home of the tigers, Walker Park for our next round of Practice matches on Sunday, April 3. Stay tuned for more information over the coming weeks.

Finally big congratulations to Nathan Philactides (under 12's) who could't play today due to the fact that he was competing in the State Athletic Championships. Nathan won Gold and is the State Champion 60 Metre Hurdler. Well done Nath from everyone at Mitcham JFC.
