The Mitcham Junior Football Club has two teams competing in the EFL Junior Finals for Season 2015. While the Under 12’s finished on top of the ladder and earned the weeks break, the Under 15’s kicked of their finals campaign at Pinks Reserve in Kilsyth on Sunday afternoon.
After losing top spot on the ladder in the final home and away game, the Under 15’s took on The Basin in the Qualifying Final. Unfortunately the boys had one of those days they would all like to forget. Nothing seemed to go right for them from the toss of the coin to the final siren. The Basin took full advantage of the situation and fully controlled the game. It was a battle getting it into our forward half and when it did go in there, The Basin seemed to be able to clear it out easily and set up their own forward entries. The reality was that our backline did a fantastic job because they were constantly under pressure and had very little respite. TK had one of his best games for the year down back, marking everything that came his way (including a great one hander) and continually repelling the forward thrusts of The Basin. He was well supported by Jaydos who continually put his body on the line for the team as well as Stinger who did his usual stuff. Too little by too few, made it an extremely tough afternoon for all concerned. Full marks to The Basin boys though as they worked extremely hard and completely turned the tables on the last time we met. Our boys need to move on fast from this game, re-group, train hard during the week and bring their A game to next weeks match against Blackburn. Bringing anything less to a finals game is a recipe for what occurred on the weekend. This group of boys have worked so hard during the year, that they will surely turn things around this week in the 1st Semi Final. It is time for them to step up! They need to stay positive and KNOW that their best will bring the rewards they desire.
This Sunday, August 2, the Under 12’s will kick the day off with the 2nd Semi Final at 10.55am at Ferntree Gully Reserve, Glenfern Road, Ferntree Gully (Mel. 74 B5). Mark and his team have had a great year, losing only the one game during the home and away season. They take on South Croydon in what should be a cracker of a game! We ask everyone to get down there and give them the support they deserve.
The Under 15’s will continue their finals campaign when they take on Blackburn in the 1st Semi Final at Heatherdale Reserve, Purches Street, Mithcam (Mel 49 D12). These two teams played a nail biter during the home and away season and this weeks game promises much of the same in what has been a very even competition. Get on down and support the boys and remember for both of these games, THE DRESSCODE IS STRICTLY YELLOW AND BLACK!
GO TIGERS!
