It was a disappointing result for the last of the Mitcham junior teams in finals action on the weekend as a gallant and under-manned under 15s went down to a Knox team who were simply better on the day. Unfortunately for the Tigers, things just didn’t quite go right for the boys in the latter half of their season losing their captain David Giles leading into the finals and Vice-Captain Zac Holland last week.

After a close 1st quarter, Knox jumped out to a handy 4 goal lead at half time and it looked a long afternoon loomed for the Tigers. However from the clouds and lead by Conor Remfrey-Pettit, the boys got their game going and piled on 5 goals to one in the third quarter (with Luke Ward booting 2 Majors) to level the scores at ¾ times. With the big crowd expecting the Mitcham boys to go on with it they simply had nothing left, and while gallant, went down by 12 points.

The boys should be extremely proud of their achievements over the last two years having won 26 out of 32 games played including 3 finals and a premiership. To finish up third at the end of the home and away season this year after going up a grade is a fantastic effort and even better considering that the team contains no less than 8 under 14 boys in the team.

As Coach Gavin Ward said after the game – “There are some exciting times a head for the Mitcham Junior Football club, including an elite under 17 program in 2014, and there’s no reason why the bulk of this group can’t stay together, it’s just a matter of how bad you really want it and sometimes defeat makes the bond closer.A wise man once said when defeat comes, accept it as a sign that your plans are not as sound as you thought, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal”

A big thank you to Graham Bradtke for the photos during the season and especially during the Final series.  Well done Graham!
