ROUND 3 RESULTS

This weekend saw the Mitcham Junior Football Club teams competing in Round 3 action. The under 9s travelled to Rowville (in that well known rain-belt) to play St. Simons at Liberty Avenue Reserve. Of course it started to drizzle right on the siren to start the game! St. Simons only had 15 players so it was left to us to supply them with three players in each quarter to make it 18 a side. Well done to the boys who played for St. Simons, especially Denzel and Matteo who actually kicked goals for the opposition. In the third quarter it was Mitcham v Mitcham in the mid-field with St. Simons throwing the three players given to them onto the ball. Well done boys – it’s all about going out and getting a kick and having fun. Overall the boys played really well today in slippery conditions and really showed off a full array of skills. Blake (speed racer) and Luca (Cyril) were among our best today and both showed that being small is not a hindrance, but an asset when zipping past opponents. A great team effort by the boys who are starting to get very familiar with the words to the Mighty Tigers theme song! Well done also to Vaughan and Paul who stepped into the coaching shoes this week while Matt was away.

The Under 10s traveled up to Pinks Reserve for their Lightning Premiership.  They came up against some very tough opposition in all four of their games.  Our team won one game and were in winning positions in two games but were outplayed by a better side in the other.  They tried their best all day and it was great to see them all socializing so well together in between games.  Special thank you to all the kids for their efforts, the parents for their support, donations of food / drink and for helping with the pack up and disassembly of the marquee. Also thank you to Kyle for organizing the rosters and all the other behind the scenes work she did to ensure that the day was a success.  Photos begin from the team photo below left.

The Under 11s played Boronia in their first home game for the season. They played a terrific game in front of a very supportive crowd. The boys played a great first half and with some individual brilliance from Ezi, went in at half time with a healthy lead. The second half was more challenging with Boronia working their way back into the game and our boys not being able to turn their hard work and forward entires into goals. We also had injury concerns in the second half and it was partly due to the brave efforts of Elijah and Geromi as well as the inclusion of our new recruits Lachy and Callum that saw our boys kick a late goal late in the final quarter to seal the result. Great work boys!  Pictures from you game are above left.

Final Score: Mitcham 7.6-48 d Boronia 5.3-33

The Under 13s also took on Boronia in their first home game for Season 2013. It was a tough week for the boys following the shocking injury to our Vice-Captain Tim Ross last weekend. The first ten minutes of the game was very even with both teams going in very hard for the ball. Boronia got the breaks due to some very good team play and jumped out to a 3 goal lead at quarter time. The second half continued much the same with Boronia looking the stronger side. To our boys credit, with a depleted bench due to injuries, they fought back hard in the last quarter with quick successive goals from Big Josh to get within 12 points before Boronia kicked 3 late goals to run out deserved winners by 33 points. Great efforts today from Sam, Jaydos, Stinger, Shaun and Adrian again. More help is needed from others!

Final Score: Boronia 9.8-62 d Mitcham 4.5-29

The Under 15s had a bye this weekend but certainly didn’t rest on their laurels with a gruelling 2 hours training session early on Sunday morning before a team BBQ at Walker Park. The boys are looking forward to resuming next week when they play away against a Knox team that are well coached, disciplined and have been in good form. Should be quite a game next Sunday!

It was another extremely tough day for the under 17s with the team struggling to match it with Coldstream. There were some good signs in the second quarter when our boys went toe to toe with Coldstream but were unable to sustain that pressure throughout the game. Remain positive and stay committed for the rest of the season boys! Our thoughts are with Matt Galea and his family after Matt’s wrist was broken early in the game. All of your team mates and the coaching staff wish you the best of luck Matt and hope you recover well.

In light of Matts injury this week and Timmy Ross Broken leg last week in the under 13’s, it’s a timely reminder to all to make sure you have ambulance cover the last thing we want is for boys to be hurt and then long after their recovered be left with a hefty Ambulance bill

Final Score: Coldstream 19.12-126 d Mitcham 2.4-16
