2015 Welcome Season 1, Junior Teams & Draw 11 Feb 2015

Dear Members,

Welcome back to you all. Hope you are looking forward to another fantastic year for our Junior and Senior Basketball Members.

Over the Christmas break we have had some great success with our Representative teams playing in the first two rounds of Qld North Junior Basketball Championship.  All teams competed well and are now back in the swing of training again getting ready for round 3 and the State Championships.

The Christmas break has seen quite a bit of activity at the den. PCYC have handed the basketball facilities back to Burdekin Basketball. This will mean a reintroduction of the mowing roster and additional cleaning requirements and assistance from our members to run the facility. A small group of workers have been busy upgrading the seating in the stadium as required by WHS laws. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful with our bid for funding to replace the outside courts with covered courts and are looking at alternatives to fix the outside courts which are now in a poor state.

Please go to our website http://www.burdekin.basketball.net.au to find the Junior and Senior Draws for February, 2015 and a list of our temporary junior teams.  We will see how these teams go for a couple of weeks.  If you cannot see your name on the list please contact Teresa Kennedy 0428 873 167.

Also - we will need parents to look out for their names in the canteen roster. Volunteers are needed this week. A mowing roster is being put together. Parents also share the responsibility of scoring and washing their child’s team uniforms over the course of the season - check for your name on the draw.

Congratulations to U18 players Faith Favero, Tiarne Harch and William Pugnale who competed at Qld State Championships in January.  The three played for Townsville and achieve some pretty impressive results.

Congratulations to William Pugnale on his selection in the U18 Qld North State Team. William will head to Ballarat Victoria in April for the U18 Australian Junior Championships.

Good Luck to Alicia Kirk who heads to Melbourne for the U20 Australian Championships in a week.

Yours in Basketball

Steve Plaza
