NEWS: Inaugural All Abilities league to culminate on Saturday with special Gala Day at Drysdale

THE INAUGURAL Geelong Region All Abilities Football League will culminate this Saturday morning with a special Gala Day that will bring all six teams from both the Northern and Southern Hubs together at the Drysdale Sports Precinct.

The GenU All Abilities Football League, as it is known after local organisation GenU sponsored the naming rights of the inaugural competition, caters for all footballers of all genders and age with an intellectual or physical disability.

It kicked off six weeks ago with six local clubs participating in a series of initial training sessions over three weeks, before participating in a three round competition season in their respective Hubs.

The initial three week training block saw Barwon, Drysdale and Surfside Waves coordinate joint training sessions in the Southern Zone Hub, while the Northern Zone Hub comprised teams from Bell Park, Geelong Rangers and Lara United.

This combined zonal training arrangement enabled coaches of the teams to see the capacity of their players who were able to learn together and develop drills and coaching techniques which was suitable for their respective groups.

The two Hubs will come together this weekend with each club taking on each of the other clubs from the opposite Hub.

A new concept for the Geelong region, the All Abilities League entered its first season with significant sponsorship backing from GenU, TAC, Vic Health and the logistical and organisational support of Leisure Networks and Football Federation Victoria.
