NEWS: GRFC Men’s Division One Pool A –Round 3 roundup

THE THIRD round of the GRFC Men’s Division 1 Pool A Finals Series continued last weekend with both Surfside Waves and Barwon Red yet to register wins after the completion of the weekend’s action.

In the first game that kicked off on Friday night in Ocean Grove between Surfside Waves and Breakwater Eagles, it was the Eagles that came out with a comfortable 4-1 win. Branden Duthie netted a brace for Breakwater and was quickly followed by Matthew Elsen and Jack Wilson with singles apiece. The consolation goalscorer for Surfside was Alex Ketchen.

Surf Coast hosted Barwon Red also on Friday night and defetaed the visitors 3-1. The three individual goalscorers for Surf Coast included Jay Christou, Jack Duffy, and Marcus Jablonski, while Sean Mahon netted the consolation goal for Barwon. So far in the Finals Series, which is three games old, Barwon have suffered the same amount of defeats as they did in the entire 13 round regular season.

Deakin Ducks continued their triumphant start to their Play-offs campaign by beating Geelong Rangers 3-1. Christopher De Hoog scored the first goal within the opening 15 minutes and was followed shortly afterwards by Kyle Schorback with a single. The final goal for the Ducks was an own goal. Dale Harris then netted the consolation goal for the Rangers.

Looking at this weekend’s Round 4 fixtures of the Play-Off phase, Surfside Waves and Geelong Rangers will clash on Friday night at Shell Road Reserve at 7.30pm, Breakwater Eagles and Surf Coast will clash at White Eagle House on Sunday at 1.15pm and finally Barwon Red will host Deakin Ducks at Grovedale Reserve at 3.00pm on Sunday.
