NEWS: Nine talented locals selected for Boys’ National Championships in September

NINE talented youngsters from the Geelong region have been selected to play for various Victorian State Teams at this year's National Boys' Championships in Coffs Harbour in late September.

Seven are current North Geelong Warriors SC juniors, one is an ex-Warrior and yet another is a former Bell Park SC boy who plays for Port Melbourne Sharks.

The list of current Warriors includes Matthew Stosic, who has been selected in the Victorian Metro Under 14s team, George Elliss in the Country Under 14s team and Nickolas Skotnica, Nicholas Volarevic, Christian Mahon, Beau Williamson and Max Noggler who have all been selected for the Vic Country Under 13s team.

Ellis is from Little River and originally played at Bell Park, Williamson came to the Warriors from Melbourne club Spring Hills, Mahon started out at Barwon SC and Noggler is a Bell Park junior. All the other boys started playing the round ball code at the Elcho Park outfit.

Another North Geelong Warrior junior, 12 year old Anthony Leban, who currently plays with the FFV Skillaroos side, has been selected in the Victorian Under 13s Metropolitan team.

Adding to the strong Geelong contingent, Port Melbourne Sharks youngster Daniel Serra has also been selected for the Under 13 Country team. Serra is a Geelong boy, whose father Dario is a well known coach locally at junior level.

This week, another rising young local star's talents were recognised when North Geelong Warriors youth player Thomas Hidic was selected by Melbourne Victory to join its NPL squad for next year's NPL season.

Hidic is one of 11 players from the NTC program who received and accepted an offer from the Victory.
