Name change for juniors

Junior football has a new name in East Gippsland.

The Dwyers Toyota Bairnsdale and District Junior Football Association will now be known as the Dwyers Toyota East Gippsland Junior Football League to better reflect the catchment area of the participating clubs.

The change was proposed by Orbost Snowy Rovers Junior Football Club and received unanimous support from the association’s member clubs at a Special General Meeting last month.

The competition features teams from Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Lindenow, Lucknow, Orbost Snowy Rovers, Paynesville and Wy Yung, and with players from those communities, as well as those in the neighbouring Omeo and District Football Netball League, forming representative teams to participate in junior interleague carnivals, it was felt the new name was more suitable.

The league was previously known as the East Gippsland Junior Football Association in 1981 before it was changed to the Bairnsdale & District Junior Football Association in 1988.

The league is thrilled that Dwyers Toyota has agreed to continue as the naming rights sponsor.
