Shady Punter Round 5 Preview
After what has felt like an eternity, AFL Quebec footy is back again this weekend. Thanks the footy gods!!!
Montreal Angels v Ottawa Lady Swans
Saturday 11th July at 12.00pm
4061 Standherd Dr. Ottawa
Battle numéro deux for the Ottawa vs. Montreal showdown. This will be a difficult one to predict with a lot of moving parts. Including Jane Fenelon's move to Ottawa and Dr Lisa's knee moving out of place. With Nathalie Presseau, Bear, and BFFs Vivian Ngyuen and Lauren Stoot all missing in action, there will be some added pressure on Kelly Cambridge and Christie Childers to hold down the fort.
As for the Montreal side, they "je me souviens" their 43-12 loss earlier on in the season. Travelling with a decent side squad, they are ready to make this 3 game series a 1-1 win. Watch out for Larissa Andrusyshyn and Jenn Dumais, both recently named to Team Canada, will be using this game as a precursor to their rugby bout at Twin Elms.
Forced to redeem themselves, I would be put my money on the Angels by 13.
Montreal Demons v West Island Wooders
Sunday 12th July at 12.30pm
And so the Montreal Demons begin LWL, Life without Luke, no not Luke O’ Farrell, the good one, Luke Anderson… and LWN, Life without Nico. And if loosing these two key players wasn’t bad enough, next up are the table toppers, West Island Wooders. Rumour has Matt Ingersole and Zach Brandstater may be out for the Demons too so they will have their work cut out against a full strength Wooders side.
The Wooders have the best on ball department in the league and for the Demons to have any chance like I’ve said a thousand times before they need to nullify this threat. Michelmore, O’Farrell and Whyte have ample ability to match Chemin, Houvion, Robinson and Manassa but have they got the desire. The Wooders have a strong running game which the Demons may not be able to match.
The last two times these teams met the Demons walked away a 17 point victory. But without Anderson on Petosa and Ingersole who chipped in with three goals that day Shady is expecting the score to be an almost perfect reversal of the round 2 result.
Wooders by 17, Petosa to kick 5+
Laval Bombers v Old Montreal Dockers
Sunday 12th July at 2.00pm
After winning their two opening games, the Dockers are now on a bit of losing streak after losing the last two. They will desperately hoping to end it this Sunday against the Bombers who themselves aren’t exactly setting the form books alight.
Inside information has it the Dockers are seriously struggling for numbers, with injuries (weddings and golf) starting to take it tolls on the Old Town men. The Dockers are also seriously lack firepower, and a consistent threat in the ruck department. Against the Demons or Wooders this game would be a wash out but against the Bombers they still have a chance.
Excitement has been building up in Laval with the news that Nathan Hockley is finally set to make his Bombers debut. Could he be the spark they need to ignite their season? The Bombers will also welcome back Rohan Bone and Paul Fairbrother which will give them the edge in the ruck. This game will be won by either teams respective on ball departments and who’s can kick more goals and last the 60 minutes. I expect it to be the Bombers
Close game for ¾ but Bombers to run away by 4/5 goals in the end. Fairbrother to lead on the field by example, Multiple Dockers goal scorers (they have no choice)
