Shady Punter's Men's Mid Term Report

We couldn’t let you go the whole weekend without some Shady talk, so here’s his midterm report on each of the men’s teams. Next weekend we’ll focus on the women’s.

Montreal Demons:

After the return of Morgan Whyte, back from injury, the Demons look like a team again worth worrying about. This coupled with their win against the league leading Wooders in round two shows just how good this team can be. Although they have come off the last four rounds with only two wins they have put in three strong performances and they can rest easy in this knowledge.

Coined 'the best team on paper' these last few years, the Dees might finally have balanced their playing numbers this year. This was exemplified in their round four game with a six man strong bench all while two quality Aussies in Luke O'Farrell and Zach Brandstater were out with injuries. I predict they have a few more surprises in them this season.

Mid-term grade: B+

Laval Bombers:

Round three aside, the most decorated team in AFL Quebec history are having a nightmare 2015 campaign. Intimidating no one on a 1-3 record the Bombers have been less than pleasing to the eye. The regular big guns on the Bombers have been performing as expected but it’s the lesser well know players that need to shine in order for them to compete this season.

Todd Rogers, Bogdan Rotaru and Paul Fairbrother will give their best but it'll be up to the Simon Auger's, Ali Telya’s and Josue Gavidia's of the team to start making a bigger impact like they have in the past. If this doesn't happen, my prediction is an embarrassing 4th place finish and an empty trophy case again this year.

Mid-term grade: C-

Old Port Dockers:

This team has really impressed so far with the additions of fresh talent from Jack Robson, Aaron Fellows and ‘Bells’ Leyva. The pressure has come off the veteran high flyers leading to a pair of impressive wins. Every team should now be fearing the Old Montreal team as their two losses have been hard fought. If you want points of the Dockers, you won’t get them easy.

I predict this team to win three or four out of their remaining five games but only if they have the following two ingredients;

Motivational leadership coming from the bench and a sharp shooting replacement for the brutally injured Darren Murphy.

Mid-term grade: B+

West-Island Wooders:

If I were asked to compare the Wooders to an AFL team it would have to be Fremantle. Comfortably on top of the ladder and nobody can deny their talent. Similar fast paced styles, always looking forward for dangerous players while still managing to share the ball. The Wooders look like the real deal again this season making it difficult to bet against them for back to back titles.

Talks in their quarter-time huddles revealed the secrets to their success. On top of having outstanding talent their undoubted team first ethos is another major factor to their success. Witnessing a whole team celebration when Yannick Massicotte scored his first goal of his career made me think this team has the edge. Obvious prediction: Stay on top. However, each team could steal points from the Wooders on the day.

Mid-Term Grade: A-
