MONTREAL DEMONS V OLD PORT DOCKERS

Take two; for the second time this season AFL Quebec will have the pleasure of seeing these two great teams take to the field to do what they do best.

The Montreal Demons are coming off a comfortable win over the reigning premiers three weeks ago and will be well rested for the clash this Sunday. They will be looking to continue the momentum built from last game and let it roll on through the rest of the season. With one of the biggest talent pools in the competition, momentum and reliability are the only questions to be asked of the Demons.

Coach Luke O’Farrell, was tight lipped about the line up this week, but little did he know that shady has one hell of an IT background, allowing yours truly to hack into coach Luke O’Farrell’s desktop and have a good look at the team. So no rumors this week, I can confirm that the return of spearhead forward Doran Felman will be a warm welcome to fellow forwards Kyle Graham and Chris Cuellar. Also returning to the team star rookie Yann Sadier who will be a great aid to seasoned star ruckman Morgan Whyte. Tim Nixon will also be returning to only add strength to the already strong lineup.

Only one rumor this week from the Demons camp and that is that star defenseman Chris Micheletti could make his first appearance for the 2014 season. With an already impressive defense line up including Koser, Pouessel, Cicek and Morin, the Demons will have the kind of headaches coaches dream of.

Trying to make all these stars shine so bright could prove the only problem as we all know too well that one star always likes to out shine the others.

The old port Dockers on the other hand are still licking their wounds that were well and truly opened up in the last quarter when they took on the mighty men from the west three weeks ago. After putting on a great display for three quarters in round 3, the old port men will be looking to take it one step further this week against the demons. If they can pull together with a four quarter performance the crowd sure will be in for a treat.

Skipper Guy Joel, unlike the leader from the Demons was very loose lipped and open about the team and tactics for this week, the old port men will look to add new sensation Arkin to the lineup for his first AFL game, who will be sure to add some bulk and strength to their lineup. Added in with the return of Matt Priess and already man mountain Shaughnessy one has to question what is in the water down at the old port with all these big bodied men……..

For the old port to get over the line this week against a formidable outfit in the Demons, shady feels that the weight will have to be spread across the class of Randy, Juddy , Marc G. and Marc Olivier who will all have to be at their best if they have any chance. With no questions to be asked of Bryan Lee who we all know bleeds purple.

Two rumors out of the Dockers camp this week and they are that team leader big Koch may be missing due to what has been referred to as hamstring soreness. Second rumor being that the soreness is due to a strenuous supplements program that has been forced on players by the clubs hierarchy, which includes several injections per week, causing swelling of all body parts bar one………

To conclude shady believes that unless the old port Dockers are injecting height and class, the demons will be in a class of their own this week and will run out comfortable winners.

Demonds by 37 points.

DEVILS V EAGLES

Round 2 for the women is a tough one to predict, as this week should be a very different game from Round 1. As recruitment for the women is ongoing, many factors come into play.

First off, the N.D.G. Devils will be hungry for their second win. Aimee Legault and Dora Bartulovic will surely be looking to kick a few more goals to secure their spots as the league’s leading goal scorers. However with the Legault sisters having travelled to Toronto twice this week for commitments with the national team and the AFL Ontario league, they will surely not be at their best. I counterbalance this with the fact that there are rumors that star bouncer Alicia Falardeau is hydrating for tomorrow’s event and if she performs as she did in the preseason tournament, she may be the game changer that tips the balance back in the Devils favor.

It looks like the Plateau Eagles didn’t take the 40 point loss lightly from the first round, as this week, even Lindsay Belzie made an appearance at a Wednesday night training session…albeit an hour and a half late. If the Plateau Eagles fighting irish karaoke queen, Elaine Gilmore, decides to stay in the country and has an early Saturday night she will be a force to reckon with. Add in Emilie Luneau’s stellar performance in Boston that earned her Rookie of the tournament, then suddenly the Eagles look like they might have chance. However the departure of International dodgy car saleswomen, Kate Sargeant has left a massive void in the Eagles rearguard. Coach Fairbrother will be hoping captain Fenelon can take Luneau under the mother eagle wing and hold the fort down back until Sargent returns.

Rumor has it too that the tackle machine, Kelsey Martin has been deemed unfit to play after she fell off her hamster wheel during the week… or got shin splints or something like that, anyways she went running and now she cant play. And so it would seem that any chance the Eagles had has suddenly just disappeared like a fart in the wind.

Well let’s not be so quick, because while the Devils have Legault (I’ll leave it up to you to pick one), the Eagles have Bender. Sometimes sports critics use the phrase growing in stature every week and often they use it just to write something, but in the case of Bender it’s true. While not at the same caliber of Legault just yet, Bender is the hottest prospect (along with Falardeau) not only in Quebec but across Canada. When Bender and Gilmore get going, then things are going to happen, Graham’s going to kick 5, Soleil will notch up 25+ possessions, …. but just not this weekend. Devils by 40 again.

BOMBERS V WOODERS

We see the Laval Bombers facing off with the West Island Wooders for the second time this season. This match is a do or be demoralized game for the Laval bombers sitting last at the end of the table!

Shady is going to keep this one short and sweet.... The Wooders remain mainly unchanged. Fabio, BOG of the Boston tournament, Dan "The Man" Robinson and Slick shoes Phil. Just these 3 names will make any opponent weak at the knees. The only glimpse of hope for the bombers is the loss of Wilfred "sex machine" Houvion and the new comer James Rassi are two noticeable outs. But the Woooders have been blessed with two new rookies. Nico 2.0 and Kyle Brody. And by their performance at training on Wednesday they are going to be a great addition to this already stellar side!

The Bombers are remaining tight lipped heading into this battle, and what a battle it will be! I've heard of secret training sessions, bowen therapy, and the latest scandal to be heard was some 'extra special' bonding time was seen to be had between a few of the bombers players. It seems like they will stop at nothing to get that first win on the board!

If they can stop the might of Fabio up forward, haggle and harass Dan 'The Man' off his game, and make most of their scoring opportunities, The running flow of the Wooders game can be over come and the there will be a sweet sweet victory to be savored...

With a couple of key players out and the bombers trying anything, to get that first win, at their disposal. This shandy punter is going to back the last years reigning premiers to win by just 7 points!
