Coaching 2018

AFL Quebec is very pleased to announce the 2018 coaching staff for our 18-a-side representative matches. This year, we plan to send full men’s and women’s teams to both AFL Canada National Championships in July and the USAFL Nationals in October. The Montreal Angels and Quebec Saints teams are both excited to learn everything possible from the folks below.

Quebec Saints

Chris Shee, head coach

Original home: Australia

2017 AFL Quebec club team: Montreal Demons

Our league head coach of 2017, back for another round. "One of my personal goals for 2018, for both the newbies and the veterans who want to improve their game, is to have more coaches in place so we can give more attention to detail. For the new players, introducing a lot of fun and cardio drills that grow the love of the game. For the veterans, we want to develop both their skills and their understanding of the game of footy. Above all, the main thing is enjoying the basics of football and keeping it fun."

Phil Manassa, assistant coach

Original home: Australia

2017 AFL Quebec club team: West Island Wooders

Manassa had this to say about his role with the Saints: "It’ll be a highlight to coach such a fantastic group of young men. Hopefully I can instill some of the same wisdom and footy smarts that my old man gave me during my younger days."

Brett Whyborn, assistant coach

Original home: Australia

2017 AFL Quebec club team: Laval Bombers

Whyborn told us he is "thrilled to be on board this year and looking forward to a big Nationals campaign, starting with the Anzac Cup in New York."

Montreal Angels

Luke Anderson, head coach

Original home: Australia

AFL Quebec is happy to welcome founder Anderson back into the fold this year. "It's an honour to be back at the helm of the Angels, after a 7-year hiatus. I'm excited to be surrounded by a talented coaching team in Chris Shee, Chris Robinson, and Pauline Bermond. With our impressive core of established players and amazing crop of rookies 2018 promises to be a huge leap forward for women's Australian Football in Quebec."

Chris Shee, assistant coach

Saints coach Shee is doing double duty to help out the Angels, as well.

Chris Robinson, assistant coach

Original home: Australia

2017 AFL Quebec club team: Laval Bombers

Robinson joined AFL Quebec during the 2016 season, almost directly from the airport when he arrived in Montreal. He’s also a Committee Director for the 2018 season. We can't wait for him to bring the same enthusiasm to his coaching role.

Pauline Bermond, team manager

Original home: France

2017 AFL Quebec club team: Plateau Eagles

Bermond is another third-season AFL Quebec veteran. She is also the current Committee vice president.

The season officially kicked off with the Anzac Cup matches in New York April 28 and will continue with the Pony Platter competition in Ottawa May 12.
