AFL Quebec v AFL Ontario Women's Game ReCap

Torrential rain didn't dampen the spirits of the AFL Quebec Women’s representative team who made the trip down the 401 to take on the AFL Ontario counterparts in the Team Canada Eastern trial game / grudge match. Team Canada veterans Margo Legault, Holly Costanza and Lisa Dalla Rosa took the field with their Angels and Swans teammates, many of whom were giving their first shot at National Team selection.

Our AFL Quebec women, dubbed "Les Swanges" for the day, battled through low temperatures and relentless rain in a gritty and hard-fought match from the first ball-up. Les Swanges dominated in possession, securing control of the footy early and getting the first points on the scoreboard. The wet conditions led to tough contests, but the AFLQ women played courageous and determined footy and managed to maintain their lead throughout the game, despite losing two players to injury and a late push from AFL Ontario in the final quarter.

A big congratulations to all players who participated - they represented our league incredibly well and demonstrated why our women are some of the best footy players in the country. AFL Quebec's victory and performance at Humber South was clearly impressive to the Team Canada coaches. By the next day, the following players were named to the National Team:

Carleton Warriors: Holly Costanza, Lisa Dalla Rosa, Vivian Nguyen, Dora Bartulovic and Ash Scott.

Rideau Shamrocks: Nathalie Presseau and Kelly Cambridge.

NDG Giants: Margo Legault, Valerie Moreau and Gabrielle Bureau.

Plateau Eagles: Elaine Gilmore, Larissa Andrusyshyn and Jennifer Dumais.

Final Score (from a rain soaked South Humber Oval, Toronto)
AFL Quebec Women's Representative Team 3.6.24
AFL Ontario Women's Representative Team 2.2.14
