MAC Adelaide Lightning promoting road safety in Mt Barker

Too many people are dying or being seriously injured on South Australian roads in crashes that could have been avoided. In many cases complacency and poor driver behaviour leads to these crashes occurring which devastate communities, leaving behind heartache and broken lives.

MAC Adelaide Lightning recognises the pivotal role that sport plays in connecting communities across South Australia. By working together with the Motor Accident Commission, the team is helping to pass on the important road safety message to players and their families, team supporters and the community with the aim to keep them safe on the road.

MAC Adelaide Lightning’s structured community engagement program, delivered in conjunction with Basketball SA and SA Country, will see MAC Adelaide Lightning players act as MAC’s ‘Road Safety Ambassadors’ and will run sessions in schools and associations that incorporate both basketball kills and road safety messages.

Sessions will focus on basketball skill development while incorporating a discussion around safe decision making practices, both on the basketball court and on the road. Lightning players, Mollie McKendrick, Mikaela Ruef and Morgan Yaeger will run a clinic at Cornerstone College on Thursday, 11 February to help deliver MAC’s Game Changer message into the community.

MAC’s Game Changer campaign looks to draw on the parallels between the on‐court actions of basketball players and the on‐road actions of motorists. The campaign links the choices made oncourt and those made behind the wheel – and the profound impact a poor choice can have on the
end result.
