EAGLES UPDATE - Must Read for 2014 Super League and Social Events

EAGLES UPDATE:

As we are now coming to the end of the Winter Competition, it’s time to start thinking about preparing for Canberra’s Elite Touch Season; with Super League fast approaching and due to start in early October.

The Eagles Touch Club are delighted to appoint the following coaches for the 2014 Super league competitions:

EAGLES WOMENS: Ben Wylie, supported by Matt Curran and Dean Taylor

What a wealth of experience and knowledge we have supporting our women this year. What Ben Wylie lacks in age, he makes up for in skill, commitment and finesse. The number 1 draft pick in the recent ACT all stars series, also starring in recent times for NSWCHS taking out the Men’s 20’s National title in 2013. Benny has also got the nature and communication skills to be a great coach as demonstrated through his assistance with the Eagles Juniors and Women’s Premier League sides this year. Matt Curran has been one of the leading players in the ACT (and Australia) for the last 20 years representing at all levels; Playing at the park and Elite levels including many years playing in the NSW State of Origin sides, with years of experience at the Australian Men’s Open and now Australian Men’s 30’s level. Dean Taylor, is a well-known and well regarded face at both the park and Elite levels playing locally for the Tuggeranong Vikings, and representing at both the State and National levels; most recently in the Men’s 30’s.

EAGLES MENS: Scott Naughton (supporter TBA)

Whilst Scott Naughton has been a leader of the Woden Eagles Men’s Open team for some time– this year, Scott will be taking the front seat as Head Coach and will driving the Eagles to another successful Super League Campaign. Scott has broad representative experience, including NSW State of Origin and Junior Australian Representative Honours. A leader on and off the field, we’re looking forward to a great year with Scott at the helm.  We are currently seeking a supporter to work with Scott this year, who will then support & run the Men’s Premier League team for Summer. Please email the club if interested.

TEAM MANAGERS: Seeking nominations for both Men’s & Women’s SL & PL teams. The team Manager will take care of the “non coaching” team management duties, eg collection of rego, co-ordination of uniforms, collation of votes etc. Please contact woden.eagles@gmail.com if interested. Can be any interested party and or friend of the club – whether player or non player.

COMPETITIONS & TRAINING:

Elite: Super League & Premier League: Eagles will be hosting both Men’s and Women’s  Super League (SL) and Premier League (PL) teams throughout the Summer Season, to ensure that all players interested are given the opportunity to be selected.  Anyone wishing to play in the Men’s and Women’s  Super league sides, will need to be present at training and as demonstrate a great attitude in order to warrant Eagles Selection. Teams will be selected each week from the training groups, based on the listed criteria and those ineligible for SL in any given week will be included in the Premier League team for that week.

The first club SL training will be on Thursday the 11th August, from 6-730 at UC ovals followed by a club dinner at our Minor Sponsor - The Lighthouse.

Social & Interstate Tournaments: For those non SL players interested in a run this summer, we will be registering as many teams as warranted. It is anticipated that in addition to the Men’s and Women’s SL & PL sides, that we will be entering numerous social mixed as well as men’s social sides in local Competitions.  Woden Eagles also expect to be attending the NSW Country Champs (Wollongong Oct), Wagga Wagga Knockout (Wagga Nov) and NSW State Cup (Port Macquarie Dec), Cootamundra Knockout (Coota Jan) & Yass Knockout (Yass Jan) so please email the club if interested in playing in any one of our competitions, or attending any regional tournaments. Please note, NSW State & Country tournaments are only open to Canberra Elite clubs, so join the Eagles as an affiliate team to benefit from the pathways we can provide.
