Below are some Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I refereed the game that was my teams Duty Refereeing Support allocation. I am a regular referee at the competition and get paid for multiple games a night, so why do we have a Referee Pentaly against our team in that round?
A: As you would have already been allocated a paid timeslot to referee, this wouldn’t count towards the Duty Referee Support allocation for your team. We encourage you to get one of your team mates to do the duty referee and gain the experience. We are seeking more referees to resolve our issues of shortages in the long run.
Q: We forgot our game and received penalty points. Can we do a make up game and get those points back?
A: Failure to attend an allocated Duty Referee slot will result in -2 Referee Penalty points, however a ‘make up’ slot can be arranged and the minus points will be taken away, however no extra bonus points will be given (net effect 1 on the ladder). Check with your Referee Coordinator at your competition and they will allocate you a ‘make up game’.
Q: But nobody in our teams wants to referee. Can’t we just pay extra money to get out of it?
A: No. If no one is willing to help out with the Duty Referee allocation you will receive -2 points per allocation missed.
Q: I turned up to do my Duty Referee Support and there was no game on?
A: From time to time teams forfeit very close to the time they are meant to be playing and this is out of our control. If teams are planning to forfeit, 24 hour notification is required. We do try our best to contact everyone regarding their game if someone does forfeit. There still maybe an opportunity to complete the Duty Referee allocation but on a different field and time slot. Ask the Referee Coordinator if there are any games you can do instead of the forfeited game. If this can’t be done your team will be allocated a new date and game.
Q: I have nominated myself to help with the Duty Referee allocations however I will be away when I am meant to referee a game. What should I do?
A: The Duty Referee Support allocations are finalised after regrading, inbetween Round 4 and 5, however if you can’t make a game for any reason please speak to the Referee Coordinator, the earlier the better, at the venue and see if they can reallocate you a game. Please note that not all requests to be reallocated a Duty Referee Support time will be approved.
Q: I did my teams Duty Referee Support allocations and I really enjoyed it and would like to do more games.
A: That’s great. TFV run Level 1 Referee Courses thoughout the year. The cost is $55 for the course and after completing 5 weeks (minimum 1 game a week) of refereeing in any TFV run competition (Albert Park, Elwood Park and Fawkner Park) we will reimburse the cost of the Level 1 Referee Course. From there you will be paid per game you referee!
