Legends of League V Darwin All Stars Saturday 10th August


International Legends of League (ILOL), in conjunction with City of Council are hosting a Legends of League versus Darwin All Stars on Saturday 10th August. The teams will feature former local, NRL, State of Origin and Australian Test players. The match will be played at the new Territory Rugby League Stadium Marrara.– in joint partnership with the Northern Territory Government, NRLNT, Rebel Sports & Airnorth.

The Australian Legends team are taking on a Darwin Allstars team brimming with local legends. Set down for Saturday 10th August , the Australian team will feature big name former Internationals such as Matt Bowen, Scott Prince, Terry Matterson , Noel Goldthorpe , Chris Walker, Stu Kelly, Craig (pod) Wilson, Nigel Roy, Peter Gill, Willie Tonga , Bryan Neibling, Ben Hannant and others.

The Darwin Allstars Team will be coached by local legend Eddie Matlop. 
The local team will consist of 25 legends who have played in excess of 100 games for their Clubs (Souths Darwin , Katherine, Bears, Sharks, Raiders, Brothers & Nightcliff).

Former local player Steve Larder, Luke Kelly & Duncan MacGillivray will come back and play for Darwin. 
The game will be raising funds for grass roots rugby league,

In regards to the event, a large group of players will arrive in the Darwin region thanks to Airnorth who have partnered with ILOL to bring these players up during the week of the game for community events and school visits talking about anti-bullying, mental health and to deliver messages around the theme of “dream, believe, achieve”. Also doing a week of Promotions in local areas. We will be promoting where we will be from next week. A big thank you to Jono from Coke & Michael from Lion for helping get these to happen

A corporate day will be held on Friday 9th August with players and corporate partners held at Nightcliff Bowls Club and then perhaps one of the highlights of the weekend will be a Dinner at Darwin Sailing Club later that night celebrating the event with all players and sponsors in attendance. This event will also have both teams on stage.

But the biggest event will be held on Saturday August 10 at 7pm when the Legends of both teams hit the field for the inaugural clash. Lead up games will commence from 1pm and will include 2 women’s games, 2 A Grade & 2 Reserve grade local competition games and a 20-minute exhibition from local juniors prior to kick off.
