Peter Shefford

Full Name: Peter Shefford

Nick Name: Sheff

Brief Background in The Sport: I commenced involvement as a player back in 1985 in Albury, NSW, as a summer alternative to Rugby League. In addition to playing I got involved in coaching at a representative level when living in Townsville, QLD, in the early 90's, and also took on positions in selecting, refereeing & administration with Defence Force Touch.  When moving to Melbourne I played mainly with Phantoms at Albert Park & Elwood Park comps, and Kendall Pirates & Cool Runnings at Diamond Valley, before moving into a primary coaching role with Triton Touch club. I have played/coached affiliate level with  Diamond Valley, Elwood, and Fawkner Park, and was instrumental in the formation of the VT League, the inaugural Uni Blues VT League franchise, and the Victorian Trans Tasman challenge - where I also coached both the 'Australian' and 'New Zealand' Mens teams to wins. I have also coached Monash & Victoria Universities at Australian Uni Games level. Over the years I have held the (Touch specific) roles of Technical Director for the Australian Universities Games; Technical Director for the Australian & NZ Police Games; Technical Director for Qld Touch; and Development Officer, Director of Selectors, Director of Coaching, Technical Director and President of Touch Football Victoria. I have received the VicSport Volunteer Coach and Administrator of the Year awards, and twice been a finalist in the VicSport Eunice Gill Leadership in Sport category. I was nominated for Life Membership of Touch Football Victoria in 2007.

People that have influenced your career: Micheal Lovett & Karley Banks. Both great coaches with a great passion for the sport.

What does it mean to you to represent your Country: To represent any country is a great honour, but to do so in the green & gold is extra special. I am a proud 'aussie' and love the sport of Touch, & to be able to combine the two and compete at the highest level is not really something that can be described - it really has to be experienced to give the feeling justice.
