Term 2 Pak'nSave Kilbirnie Junior Netball Academy

Junior Netball Academy – Term 2 2017

ASB SPORTS CENTRE

Starts 17th May 2017

Ends 21st June 2017

Suitable for all girls and boys in Years 5 – 8

Year 5 & 6 sessions are held on Wednesdays from 4pm - 5pm
Years 7 & 8 sessions are held on Wednesdays from 5pm – 6pm

Our Junior Netball Academy offers the chance for an after-school development opportunity and can be of benefit as...
* an additional skill boost for those already playing and lift their Saturday game play.
* a training option for those who do not have the chance to attend team trainings.
* an introduction to the game, netball rules and skills required to successfully play netball.

Each session focuses in on key fundamental basic skills such as:
Footwork - no stepping when holding the ball but fast-feet certainly help when playing both attack and defence!
Movement - the ability to lose your partner as well as keep up with your partner when on defence is very helpful!
Ball Skills - strong accurate passes are very important in netball, as is catching when stationery but mostly on the move!
Defence - man-on-man marking, 3-foot marking, front marking, side marking, the art of intercepts... all very handy to get possession of ball back for your team!
Attack - creating space, driving into space and balancing the court all help when bringing the ball all the way down the court to the goal circle.
Shooting - the correct technique and accuracy as well as ability to perform under pressure ultimately leads to points on the board!

Over the six week duration participants will get the chance to focus on fine-tuning all skills listed above.  While sessions may include some drill work, it is important to us that we do our best to use as many engaging activities as possible and do our best to finish off by applying skills learnt into a modified game at the end of each session.  Depending on participant numbers we may get to play a full-court game however don't worry, we have plenty of other fun ideas to challenge you to put your netball skills to good use if not!

Those who have previously attended will revisit basic skills but be further challenged to improve upon the skills they have already required.  We aim to extend their understanding and game application.

This programme suits all skill levels.  Participants may be divided into skill-based groups where participant numbers allow.

Cost: $75 per participant for six weeks

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
