SEASON PREVIEW: RED DUST LADY HEELERS

RED DUST LADY HEELERS

Last Year: N/A

Roster: Melissa Collins Ferrett, Clare Nott, Tahlia Hagart, Dianne Cowen, Lily Poulter, Georgia Inglis, Deanna Smith, Anika Coppin Foley, Amy Ralph, Kathleen O-Kelly Kennedy, Taylah Perry.

Fixture:
In their debut season, Red Dust will hit the court in the second game of Round 1 when they take on the Stars. They will play their home games out of Bundoora in Victoria with La Trobe University hosting games in Round 4 with their bye coming in Round 3.

Overview:
The newest team in the competition have some handy pedigree on the sidelines with five-time Paralympian and Rio flag bearer Brad Ness coaching them. Australian Gliders Kathleen O’Kelly- Kennedy and Clare Nott will bring experience to the club while Deanna Smith has experience both in a wheelchair and out having won two Championships in the WNBL. Georgia Inglis has come over from the Western Stars after leading the competition in assists last year with more than eight per game but it will be interesting to see if she can maintain those numbers without a player like Amber Merritt on her side. Whether their youngsters, including 11-year old Lily Poulter, can be productive off the bench for the Lady Heelers may be their biggest test.

One To Watch:
Two-time Paralympic medallist Clare Nott is back in the WNWBL this season and will bring a wealth of experience to a team that may be lacking in that department. She was named the 1-point MVP in 2009 and featured in the All-Star Five in 2009-11, 13 and 15 while most recently she was the Finals series MVP when Kilsyth won the Championship in 2015. A capable scorer, Nott’s passing will be just as critical to the Lady Heelers’ chances after averaging 4.5 assists per game through her first five years.

Prediction:
Third-Fifth
