SEASON PREVIEW: SYDNEY METRO BLUES
SYDNEY METRO BLUES
Last Year: 13 wins, 3 losses- 2nd
Roster: Jess Cronje, Ashlea Pellow, Maryanne Latu, Louise Sauvage, Kylie Gauci, Jessica Pellow, Georgia Munro-Cook, Bridie Kean, Cobi Crispin, Josh Meoli.
The Blues will not have to wait long to have a shot at redemption against the Stars, the team that beat them in the gold medal game last year, as they face them on the second day of the season. The only team not to have a bye this season, Sydney Metro only play Saturdays and Sundays through 2017.
Coached by Troy Sachs, the Blues will be aiming to go one step further than last season when they were unable to get past the Stars in the finals. Aside from that, they had a dominant year and have retained their entire roster including four players that all averaged over nine points per contest and All-Stars Kylie Gauci and Bridie Kean. Finishing as one of the top performers at the 2017 Osaka Cup and a previous silver medallist at the Under-25 World Championships, this will be a big year for Georgia Munro-Cook as she continues to develop into a Glider of the future.
One To Watch:
Bridie Kean is coming off a dominant 2016 season and there is little in the way of her once again leading the Blues back into Championship contention. Last year, she finished as only one of six players to average a double-double and was the team’s leader in points (18.5), rebounds (10.7) and assists (3.4) while sitting as the league’s best free-throw shooter with 38 makes (five more than any other player) at a 70% clip.
