2016 PREVIEW: SYDNEY METRO BLUES
SYDNEY METRO BLUES
Last Year: 3 wins, 13 losses- 4th (as Stacks Goudkamp Bears)
Roster: Cobi Crispin, Jess Cronje, Kylie Gauci, Bridie Kean, Maryanne Latu, Georgia Munro-Cook, Ashlea Pellow, Jessica Pellow, Louise Sauvage.
The Blues will start 2016 under their new name with a clash against the Comets in the first game of the season. In similar fashion to the Flames, a return to the playoffs would be boosted by the finals being played in their home city.
With a name change from last season when they were the Bears, the Blues will be aiming to earn a medal in 2016 after they surprised some by advancing beyond the Semi-Finals in 2015.
With several Australian Gliders in the team including Crispin, Cronje, Gauci, Kean and Munro-Cook, there is no reason to think they cannot improve on last year’s record while those that competed in the NWBL season will be desperate to showcase their skills after the Blues went winless through the 2016 campaign.
One To Watch:
Coming across from the Comets, a team she helped carry to the Championship in 2014, Bridie Kean is one of the league’s most prolific scorers. Averaging a double-double last year, she also had a triple-double in Round 2 and that ability to not only score but bring her team mates into the contest will be a vital part of the Blues’ run this season.
