Ghana impresses at NBA Africa Developmental Camp

Ghana's first showing at an NBA Africa Developmental Camp was impressive, and caught the attention and interest of NBA Africa Development Coaches and camp organizers. The Camp which was for the first in the region took place in Ouagadougou,Burkina Faso. This is a new initiative of NBA Africa to host regional developmental camps in East,West,Central,North, and Southern Africa  as a way to better assess the young talent pool on the continent for future continental development camps and development opportunities.

The Ghana Basketball Association selected three members of the current National Under 18 Boys Team preparing to play in the Zone 3 Afrobasket Qualification tournament to be held in Ivory coast first week in July. The selected players included Ernest Aflakpui 6'10, Sulemana Abubakari 6'7, and Abrahim Mohammed 5'10. The selected players did put up their best through out all the camp skills training activities, at the end of the camp it was Ernest Aflakpui 6'10 and Sulemana Abubakari 6'7 who made it into the Camp All-Star team. At the end of the camp the coaches were impressed with Ernest and Sulemana. It is now very likely that one of them will be invited back for the NBA Without Boarders Camp Africa to be held in South Africa in August 2012. This will be the first time a Ghanaian has been invited to the NBA Without Boarders Camp Africa since it begun some years ago.

The Ghana Basketball Association(GBBA) also took this opportunity to network with NBA Africa and also see the possibilyt of hosting the next regional NBA Development Camp in Ghana. If this should happen it would be the second time the NBA will have direct relations with Ghana since 1998. The GBBA is slowly and strategically picking its up on the National Team stage, and hopefully this approach could help to get the GBBA back on track of effectively managing and supervising national basketball in Ghana.
